Sirius XM: Eyeing 28 Million Subs in 2013
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last month, Sirius XM lowered its subscriber guidance for the year and 2009, citing a troubled economy and slower auto sales that are expected to impact the enrollment of new customers in the coming quarters.
The company also provided a long-term outlook for its business … in terms of subscriber growth for the next four to five years. And while things may be more sluggish than expected in 2008 and 2009, the satellite radio giant said it thinks it can have more than 28 million customers by the end of 2013.
For this year, Sirius XM said it expects to finish with 19.1 million customers, down from a previous forecast of 19.5 million. Next year, the company is projecting that it will have 20.6 million subscribers, down from a previous estimate of 21.5 million.
Sirius XM also forecasted that it could end 2010 with 22.1 million customers, and 24 million in 2011. Long-term projections include 26.2 million satellite radio subscribers in 2012, and 28.4 million in 2013, stated company estimates.
