CAMP WILLIAMS, Utah —
A groundbreaking was held Thursday for a new National Security Agency data center at Camp Williams.
The center is officially called the Intelligence Community Comprehensive National Cyber-Security Initiative or CNCI. It will be used to help U.S. intelligence agencies.
The U.S. Corp of Engineers, Baltimore District, awarded $1.19 billion contract to construct the center located approximately 25 miles south of Salt Lake City.
The center will take up 200 acres at Camp Williams and is expected to bring 5,000 to 10,000 new jobs during construction.
The CNCI complex is designed to help the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other security agencies to protect against potential cyber threats against the nation.
The center is expected to be completed by October 2013.
