ROCK HILL, SC. - A Rock Hill elementary school teacher is dead after police say the vehicle she was riding in was involved in a crash with a school bus.
WBTV has learned that 66-year-old Rene Trimnal, a teacher at Ebenezer Avenue Elementary School was killed in a three-vehicle wreck on Thursday evening. Trimnal was an International Studies teacher at the school.
According the Highway Patrol, Trimnal was riding with her daughter, Kathy Christensen and Kathy's husband Jud, near state Highway 5, when Christensen's vehicle slammed into the back of a school bus.
Trimnal was taken to Piedmont Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Jud Christensen was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Kathy Christensen was taken by ambulance. Both suffered serious injuries.
WBTV has learned that no children were on the bus at the time of the crash. The bus driver, Whitney Wade, was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The Highway Patrol is investigating. There is no immediate report of charges.
Counselors are on hand at the elementary school Friday to talk with the students. The school's principal sent a note to the school's teachers and parents about the crash.
