A 13 year-old boy and his father are in critical condition in hospital after their rural Manitoba home was gutted by fire.
RCMP said the fire broke out early Saturday morning in a home in the rural municipality of La Broquerie, near the town of the same name, about 70 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
Police said they were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. CT and when they arrived they found fire crews already battling the blaze.
According to police there was a family of six inside the home at the time of the fire.
They said the mother and three children were able to escape the burning home.
The father ran to the basement to save their 13-year-old son from his bedroom. The two emerged, but with serious injuries.
There were taken to hospital in Winnipeg in critical condition, police said.
RCMP added the house was destroyed in the blaze.
Manitoba's Office of the Fire Commissioner was on the scene Saturday to investigate along with RCMP officers.
Police said the fire did not appear to be suspicious.
