Travellers warned of measles outbreaks in western Europe

OTTAWA - The Public Health Agency of Canada is warning travellers of measles outbreaks currently in several western European countries, including France, Switzerland, Germany, the U.K. and Ireland.
Measles is the leading cause of vaccine-preventable deaths in children worldwide.
Symptoms usually include fever, cough, runny nose, pink eye and rash. Among the serious complications are severe diarrhea, ear infections, pneumonia, blindness and swelling of the brain.
Canadians may be protected against measles if they were born before 1970. Adults born since then should ensure they have received two doses of the vaccine.
