What is so different about the Dual Core and Intel Core i5 and i7 processor series? Aren't they the same thing, but named differently? Is i5 a dual core, but better? And a i7 like quad core, but better?
i7 and i5 cores are faster than dual core because the normal dual cores are from a older family of processors. The Core i7 and i5 is a completely new architecture which is much faster and more efficient than the Core 2 Duoi7 and i5 processors has cores ranging from 2-6 cores and has many hyperthreadings
In a way, yes, the i5 is comparable to core 2 duo and the i7 to quad core. However, the biggest difference is that the i5/i7 processors can overclock themselves for better performance and downclock themselves to save energy and produce less heat.
