SANAA, Yemen – The U.S. Embassy in Yemen says it is closing its consular section for two days and ordered its personnel to stay out of a district in the capital because of unrest.

The embassy says the consular section will be closed Tuesday and Wedneday because of "the fluid security situation in the city."

It says embassy employees are "restricted" from part of Sanaa's Hadda neigborhood because of the "presence of armed militias."

On Sunday, armed supporters of President Ali Abdullah Saleh surrounded the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Hadda, trapping the American ambassador and other diplomats inside. Pro-Saleh militiamen flooded the streets on Sunday as the president refused to sign a U.S.-backed deal requiring him to step down in 30 days.
