The difference is in the technology. They do the same thing differently. Intel is bigger, and more well known, and this most everything is designed for the Intel (yes, there are some instances where you will have to use an Intel processor).AMD has always benched better than an equivalent Intel processor (i.e. a 486 66MHz Intel processor didn't perform as well as a 486 66MHz AMD). The same is still true today, and the AMD claims to use less power (wattage) than an equivalent Intel. So, if you are looking to buy, what can you take from this? 1) AMD is cheaper and works great for the casual user 2) If you want to tinker, go with AMD (very few Intel boards allow the user to tinker (overclock)) 3) AMD uses less operating power 4) Intel is the giant, and the industry "norm"My recommendation: For your PC would be AMD. If you find a reputable laptop vendor that sells AMD powered laptops, please email me!!! Intel pretty much has that market locked, even though AMD does make Mobile processors.
