I'm new to this and very technologically challenged, so if I am posting in the wrong spot, or it seems like I'm asking a dumb question, I apologize. I recently installed a satellite and have a Pansat 2700a receiver. My wife wants to be able to record "her shows" come September. Besides getting TiVo is there something like an old fashioned VHS recorder that a person can connect up to the system and program it to record different shows while watching something else on the TV? I see some items on eBay that connect to the computer, but I'm not sure if that is what I'm looking for. (The ones that advertise "Watch Satellite from your PC and record".
Any help, product suggestions, etc will be greatly appreciated. I tried searching the forums, but go no hits on this subject. Thanks!!!!

Well marbleeyesjg you have posted in the right spot . & yes you can record to VCR just use coax cable on back of Pansat 2700a receiver that says out to TV and run it to VCR input and you will have to watch what your taping on sat put can watch something else on cable or other input like other sat system . if you only have FTA system AKA Pansat for watching TV you might have to find a different solution other than VCR..

Thanks FACE33 for your very helpful information. I think though, I maybe mis-stated what I'm looking for. (In reading my original post, I would say you answered what I asked for, but not what I was thinking.))
I don't necessarily want to use a VCR, but more along the lines of a DVR or PVR. I would like to be able to watch something and record something at the same time, or program it to record a week in advance. I see things on eBay that supposedly allow you to do something like this, but not sure if they really work. I have 2 lines coming in from my satellite. One for the main tv and another one runs to a bedroom. Could I put a splitter (like I would with regular cable) and run a line to another receiver box and then to the PVR/DVR? Any recommendations as to type or someone elses experience with the things that hook to the PC would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have the expanded programming in my 2700a.

well for part of your question you can't split FTA like cable you would have to buy a Multiswitch like a EMP-Centauri P.155 witch allows up to 4 satellites in & out to 8 different TV's that will cost about $160.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9x8 Multiswitch (Powered)
> PROFi Line <
Super high quality European made multiswitch, distributes 4 satellites and 1 ANT into 8 receivers

or

Super high quality European made multiswitch, distributes 4 satellites and 1 ANT into 4 receivers.

for about $140.00 its starts to get a little expensive but you can run many recievers it might be cheaper to tivo or PVR/DVR witch I don't know that much about some of the newer receivers have DVR options . my Veiwsat 9000HD has it but I still have to watch what I record far as I can tell still a little new at the recording part . Good Luck . Maybe someone else has some more info for both of us .. CHEERS
