I know that putting something in the recycle bin and emptying it gets it out of my sight, but I also know that info remains on the harddrive even after this happens.

You can go under my computer and left click the hard drive. Then click format. WARNING THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA AND YOU WILL HAVE TO INSTALL THE OS SOFTWARE AGAIN. also you could just reinstall the os software again and it will erase it.

Depends on how much you're concerned about that information being read.o Simply moving it into the Recycle Bin leaves it fully recoverable and visible to most user levels.o Truly deleting from a Windows file system just marks the file as no longer being used, and it might eventually be overwritten sector by sector, but it could be partially or totally recovered by forensic software for some time.o There is software to overwrite a file with random bits, which might make it very hard to recover, but if it had data someone thought really worth the effort, it could still be partially recovered.o There are temporary copies of files made during editing or other processes; those might be recoverable.o Some drives are sold specifically for sensitive data with internal thermite or acid charges. You might ask yourself if it is worth putting embarrassing, dangerous or proprietary data on a drive. In the event of legal action, would destruction of data be viewed as evidence against you?
