Should I update the firmware on 2 SSD's before setting up RAID 0?

I managed to get a pair OCZ Vertex 2 120gig ssd's which I am intending to placed onto raid Zero.

Just how should I update the firmware upon the SSD's? is it possible to perform it following RAID 0 setup?and / or ought it always be in advance of the raid?

Well Raid 0 would practically bottle neck my board as a result it really DOSE have a huge difference in performance, but they speedy with no raid setup.

Still I am definitely not worried about shedding 120 gigabytes just to have my Operating system duplicated to the two SSDs.

I do not see the purpose?

Search The major search engines before asking my friend! However its good to have this here for others:

It isn't the SSD's which need a firmware update, if anything it is the SATA controller chip. Most have inbuilt raid options, if not, then obtain a SATA controller Card (pci/pcie card) relatively low-priced.

Plus with 2 SSDs there isn't any point, you could potentially loose a lot of data files, use it in RAID 1 for safety, since they are easily quick enough without having RAID 0 configuration.

With my MB I can not update the firmware on my SSDs without taking them out of raid mode and putting them in single drive mode. So the answer is yes update your firmware on your SSDs before you put them in a raid mode of any kind.

Avoid the use of RAID 0. The chance of full data file loss is enormously multiplied with virtually no boost in performance, particularly with when SSDs are involved.

Defragmenting is assign too much importance on current day computers. Large, super fast drives utilizing NTFS usually do not require this procedure frequently.

Make sure to install the Trim software application.
