Jackson family to skip LA anniversary

LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine, and his three children will not spend the one-year anniversary of Michael's death in Los Angeles, sources tell TMZ.

Michael Jackson died of cardiac arrest last year on June 25 at the age of 50.

Instead of Los Angeles, Katherine and Michael's children Prince, Paris and Blanket reportedly will observe the day in Gary, Ind., where Michael was born, the sources told TMZ. The ceremony is supposed to be a private one with friends and family.

Meanwhile, an entertainment conglomerate and Michael's estate have agreed to donate $1.3 million to Los Angeles to help cover most of the costs of last year's memorial following Jackson's death, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Anschutz Entertainment Group hosted the memorial last year at its Staples Center and Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The Times said AEG announced the funding deal Friday with LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

AEG is donating $1 million for the city's general fund and an additional $300,000 for crime-fighting equipment, designed to cover police services, traffic control and other costs from the July 7 tribute. But some public estimates put the cost to the city at more than $6 million, while one report to the City Council put the tab at $3.2 million, the Times said.
