Grave sites empty, remains found in home

HARTFORD, Conn., June 18 (UPI) -- The remains of a West Hartford, Conn., man and his sister-in-law were found at the Pennsylvania home of the woman's twin sister, police say.

After learning there might be human remains at the Wyalusing, Pa., home of Jean Stevens, 91, police executed a search warrant and found the bodies of June Matson Stevens and James Stevens, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported.

James Stevens, who died May 21, 1999, was the late husband of Jean Stevens, twin sister to June, the newspaper said Thursday.

Police say James Stevens had been buried in Wyalusing's Lime Hill Cemetery and June Stevens had been interred on Jean Stevens' private property, the newspaper said.

After police opened both grave sites they found empty coffins, they said.

Investigators say Jean Stevens may have asked someone to dig up the bodies shortly after each burial to have them moved into her home, the Courant said.

No charges have been filed, police say.
