Contrite bank robber turns self in
OCALA, Fla., Police in Florida said a man who robbed a bank of $3,688 felt so bad about the crime, he turned himself in to authorities the following day.
Wayne Leonard Hurst, 33, told detectives he woke up Wednesday feeling so distraught about the Tuesday robbery at Florida Citizens Bank in Ocala, he headed down to the Marion County Courthouse, where he received directions to the Marion County Jail, and walked 5 miles to the jail, WFTV, Orlando, Fla., reported Friday.
Hurst, who was armed with a handgun, made off with $3,688 after Tuesday's robbery. Police said he was carrying the $225 left over from the crime and he told them the rest was spent on rent, utilities and food for him and his roommate, who are both unemployed.
"He said the more he thought about it, the more he got sick and wanted to turn himself in," Ocala Police Detective Stephen Thibodeau said.
Hurst was placed under arrest and charged with robbery with a firearm.
