Gazprom seeks foreign funding institution assistance
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, (UPI) -- Russia's Gazprom is reaching out to leading international financial institutions.

Gazprom issued a press release about its meetings during the St. Petersburg (Russia) International Economic Forum, where Gazprom Chief Executive Officer Aleksei Miller and Deutsche Bank chief Josef Ackermann discussed "the successful experience of cooperation in the project to expand Gazprom's oil business and examined prospects for joint operations, in particular, raising financing to implement new investment projects," Interfax reported on Friday.

Miller also held talks with Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit. Miller discussed raising loans from Citigroup and the bank's consulting services. The press release said, "The outlook for work by the two parties to organize corporate financing for Gazprom is very promising."

Citigroup, long involved in assisting Gazprom's plans for developing its oil business sector, in October 2005 was one of six parties involved in organizing a $13.1 billion syndicated loan for Gazprom to acquire Sibneft, now Gazprom Neft. In 2007-2008 Citigroup also assisted Gazprom in acquiring interim financing for buying shares in Mosenergo and has organized the sale of Gazprom Eurobonds and ruble bonds.
