How to USB to Serial Adapter,SonySat

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I use an iogear model # guc232a,that I got from Wally World and it's been reliable.Belken and others also make good units. If it has a CD to install drivers, that's a plus.
NOTE:Windows XP is my os.
Plug your USB-Serial into a USB slot. Don't plug the other end to the receiver.
Now try this:
1) Go to Control Panel
2) Double click on System
3) Click on the [HARDWARE] tab then [DEVISE MANAGER]
4) Hit the [+] sign on {Ports(Com&LPT)}
5) Double click on your USB-Serial comm if its there. My netgear adapter is identified = ATEN USB to Serial Bridge (COM4) = The COM port assigned is dependent upon the USB port used.
6) Hit the [PORT SETTINGS] Tab.I changed mine from a baud rate of 9600 to 115,200
7) Hit ok and close out Control Panel
8)OPEN YOUR LOADER WITH CABLE ATTACHED TO COMPUTER AND STB.Click on the drop down box for COM and click on the COM port assigned to your adapter and then open firmware and load.
If anyone wants to add info or hints to this post, simply reply and post your info.good luck
Prez provided these additional helpful hints:
Don't forget to hook up your "Null Serial" cable to the end of the USB to Serial cable otherwise it probably won't work using just the USB to Serial cable.
So,:,:,:
> USB end into your computer
> Null Serial cable into end of USB to Serial cable
> other end of Null Serial cable into Spacestar/SonySat
Unplugging your Spacestar/SonySAT prior to hooking up to your computer usually helps .
