ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)—The Los Angeles Angels set up an award in memory of pitcher Nick Adenhart(notes), who died on April 9 after he was killed in a traffic collision by a suspected drunken driver.
Named the Nick Adenhart “Pitcher of the Year” award, the accolade will be given to the Angels’ pitcher whose performance is selected by his teammates as the most outstanding through the season.
Adenhart, 22, died in surgery hours after he made his season debut by pitching six scoreless innings in a loss to the Oakland Athletics in Anaheim.
Adenhart, Courtney Stewart and Henry Pearson were killed. Andrew Thomas Gallo, the driver charged with the killings, pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder on June 9.
