AMPA, Fla. – Javier Vazquez allowed one run and four hits over six-plus innings and the New York Yankees beat the Washington Nationals 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Vazquez, the Yankees' No. 4 starter, had six strikeouts during a 77-pitch outing. He left after giving up a leadoff single to Christian Guzman — who later scored — in the seventh.

Alex Rodriguez hit an RBI triple in the fourth and added a run-scoring single for the Yankees in the sixth.

Livan Hernandez, bidding for one of the final two spots in the Washington rotation, gave up one run and three hits in five innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked two.

Nationals right fielder Willy Taveras was thrown out trying to steal second in the third and then was ejected for arguing the call.
