MLB: San Diego 3, San Francisco 1
SAN DIEGO, May 18 (UPI) -- Clayton Richard shut San Francisco down on three hits over seven innings Monday, handing the San Diego Padres a 3-1 victory over the Giants.

Richard (3-2) mystified the Giants, striking out five and allowing three walks, helping the Padres snap a three-game losing streak and maintain their hold on first place in the National League West.

Heath Bell nailed down the win with his 11th save and Adrian Gonzalez homered for San Diego.

Bell had to wait around on the mound during his clutch ninth-inning performance as security personnel chased down two fans who ran onto the field at Petco Park.

Matt Cain (2-3) absorbed the tough-luck loss for the Giants, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings.
