ATLANTA, (UPI) -- Troy Glaus gave Atlanta the lead with a two-run double in the sixth Thursday and the Braves held on to defeat Tampa Bay 3-1.

Tim Hudson (7-2) gave up a run on four hits over seven innings to get the win, Jonny Venters worked around a one-out walk to throw a scoreless eighth and Billy Wagner was perfect in the ninth while earning his 12th save.

The Braves won twice in the three-game series to stay in front of the charging New York Mets in the National League East.

Hudson helped his own cause with a leadoff single in the sixth against James Shields (5-6) and moved to second on a base hit by Martin Prado.

Brooks Conrad sacrificed the runners to second and third and Jason Heyward struck out. After Brian McCann was intentionally walked to load the bases, Glaus drove the first pitch from Shields to right field for a double that broke a 1-1 tie.

Heyward deadlocked the game in the fourth inning with his 11th homer of the year.
