Johnson leads, Woods charges at U.S. Open
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., (UPI) -- Dustin Johnson fired a 5-under-par 66 Saturday to forge a three-stroke lead after three rounds of the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, Calif.

Johnson has won at Pebble Beach twice during regular PGA Tour stops at the legendary seaside course, but has yet to win a major championship. He put himself in a great position to do so with a gutsy round that left him with a 6-under 207.

That was three strokes ahead of second-round leader Graeme McDowell (71) at minus-3, while an onrushing Tiger Woods got back into contention with a sparkling round of 66, putting him alone in third at 1-under 212, five shots off the pace.

Woods's round was highlighted by a classic shot onto the 18th green when he used a 3-wood from 260 yards and ran the ball all the way to the green, stopping about 20 feet of the hole.

Woods missed the eagle putt and settled for a birdie.

Gregory Havret (69) ended with sole possession of fourth place at even-par 213, while Phil Mickelson (73) and Ernie Els (73) finished knotted for fifth at 1-over 214.
