SAN FRANCISCO, (UPI) -- Jon Lester tossed a five-hit complete game and David Ortiz homered Sunday to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 5-1 inter-league win over San Francisco.

Lester (9-3) was in complete command, yielding one run, walking one and striking out nine while hurling his fifth career complete game and second of the year. Lester threw 103 pitches in the nine-inning performance.

David Ortiz launched a first-inning solo homer into McCovey Cove and Adrian Beltre added a solo shot to provide offense for the Red Sox, who took the rubber match of a three-game series at AT&T Park.

Giants starter Tim Lincecum (8-3) struggled, lasting only three innings. He surrendered four runs on five hits.

But the Boston victory was subdued. Catcher Victor Martinez sustained a broken thumb and a decision on whether to place him on the disabled list was pending.

It was the third injury in three games for the Red Sox -- pitcher Clay Buchholz hyper-extended his left knee Saturday and second baseman Dustin Pedroia fractured a foot bone with a foul ball Friday.
