Nadal, Berdych reach Wimbledon final

LONDON, (UPI) -- World No. 1 Rafael Nadal and 12th-seeded Tomas Berdych each won Friday in straight sets and will meet in the finals at Wimbledon.

Nadal took out fourth-seeded Andy Murray 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 after Berdych dispatched third-seeded Novak Djokovic 6-3, 7-6 (11-9), 6-3.

Nadal will be appearing in his fourth Wimbledon final in five years -- he missed last year because of injury -- and won the event in 2008. Berdych qualified for his first major tournament final.

Should Berdych win when he plays Sunday, it won't be a cheap title. He ousted world No. 2 Roger Federer in the quarterfinals and No. 3 Djokovic to get a shot at the top-ranked Nadal.

Nadal used the only break of the first two sets against Murray to take the first set and took the tie-breaker for two-set lead.

Murray got an early service break in the third set but Nadal broke back and tied the set at 4-4. He went ahead in winning his serve at love and finished the match with this third service break.

Berdych dropped serve just once in his semifinal and broke Djokovic's serve once in each set. He had double the number of winners over unforced errors (34-17) and fired 11 aces.

Djokovic countered with nine aces but also had eight double faults and 22 unforced errors against 25 winners. Djokovic's lone service break allowed him to tie the second set at 6-6 but one of the double faults came on set point for Berdych in the tie-breaker.

Nadal owns a 7-3 advantage over Berdych in his career. Berdych won three of the first four times they met. Nadal's six-match winning streak over Berdych includes a straight-set win at the 2007 Wimbledon, which was their only meeting on a grass court.
