KANSAS CITY

Mo., A sacrifice fly by Ty Wigginton delivered the winning run in the 11th Thursday and Baltimore survived a five-run Kansas City fourth to down the Royals 6-5.

The Orioles ended a five-game losing streak on the day the team announced Buck Showalter would take over as manager next week. Juan Samuel has been managing the club on an interim basis since the dismissal of Dave Trembley June 4.

Kansas City took a 5-3 lead in the fourth, thanks to a big inning that featured a two-run single by Yuniesky Betancourt.

Baltimore came back to tie it in the eighth on a homer by Corey Patterson and the Orioles won it by scratching out a run in the 11th against Blake Wood (0-2).

Cesar Izturis drew a walk to open the 11th and went to third on a single by Bryan Roberts. Izturis was then thrown out at home on a grounder to second by Nick Markakis, but Roberts was able to reach third on the play and he scored on Wigginton's fly ball to left.

Alfredo Simon gave up two hits in the bottom the 11th, but was helped out by a double play and collected his 15th save.

The win went to David Hernandez (5-7), who struck out three in two innings of relief. The Royals have lost five in a row.
