MLB: Texas 7, Oakland 4
ARLINGTON, Texas, David Murphy and Taylor Teagarden hit sixth-inning homers Thursday that expanded a one-run lead and boosted the Texas Rangers to a 7-4 victory over Oakland.
The Rangers won their fourth straight series following the All-Star break, improving to 10-4 during that stretch and increasing their lead in the American League West to 8 /2 games over second-place Oakland. The idle Los Angeles Angels
fell nine games back.
Texas next goes on the road for six games against the Angels and Athletics.
The Rangers broke out of a slump at the plate by pounding out 14 hits. They had produced more than three runs just once during the last seven games.
Texas built a 4-1 lead through five innings, but the Athletics scored twice in the sixth and left the bases loaded.
Murphy then hit a solo homer in the sixth and Teagarden, who had just one hit in 27 at bats in 11 previous games this season, hit a two-run shot.
C.J. Wilson (10-5) lasted 5 2/3 innings to get the win, giving up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
The loss went to Vin Mazzaro (6-3), who surrendered all seven runs on 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
