Kentucky added to Sprint Cup schedule
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., NASCAR officials announced Wednesday a new track will be added to the Sprint Cup schedule for the first time in a decade.

In addition, the 2011 schedule calls for the championship chase to begin in Chicago rather than Loudon, N.H. Atlanta and Fontana, Calif., will each host one race instead of two as they currently do.

The Sprint Cup series will race for the first time at Kentucky Speedway, which will host its inaugural race July 9. A second date for Kansas Speedway was also added, an event that will be held June 5 the week after the 600-mile event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The second race on the Sprint Cup schedule has recently been held in Fontana, but next year the drivers will go to Phoenix after opening the year with the Daytona 500 Feb. 20.

Fontana will host its only race of the year March 27. That track had been a part of the championship chase, but its place in the season-ending portion of the series will now be taken by Chicago.

Atlanta loses its March race and now will appear on the schedule only in September, the next-to-last race before the start of the chase.

The Sprint Cup season will continue to end at Homestead, Fla.
