Ex-Marine guilty of killing fellow Marine
GOLDSBORO, N.C., A jury in North Carolina Monday convicted a former U.S. Marine of murdering a fellow Marine.

The jury deliberated less than 3 hours following a three-week trial before finding Cesar Laurean guilty of first-degree murder and financial transaction card theft. Laurean was found not guilty of robbery with a dangerous weapon, WNCT-TV, Greenville, reported.

Laurean, who was a corporal stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., when he killed Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach with a blow to the head in December 2007, faces life in prison, the TV station said, though the verdict will be appealed.

Lauterbach's remains were found buried behind a Jacksonville, N.C., house in January 2008. Laurean fled to Mexico hours before the discovery, leaving behind a note saying Lauterbach had killed herself and he had buried her out of fear he would be blamed.

At the time of her death, Lauterbach was nearly eight months pregnant. Laurean was not the father of her child.

She told military authorities in April 2007 Laurean raped her she but later recanted the allegation.
