Sunny weather could spark new fires
VICTORIA, British Columbia, Despite cooler weather and rain across British Columbia, officials say more sunshine could bring on another critical fire situation and more evacuations.

Fire officer Gwen Eamer said 232 forest fires are burning throughout the Canadian province but the number of new fires has been decreasing daily thanks to colder and wetter conditions, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Monday.

Sunny weather could spark new fires, Eamer said.

Evacuation orders remain in place for the Fraser-Fort George and Bulkley-Nechako regions where the largest fires are still burning.

Campfires are banned across almost 70 percent of British Columbia.

Both the Binta Lake and the Pelican Lake fires, covering a total of 185,000 acres, are each only 20 percent contained, the CBC reported.
