Uihlein downs Chung for U.S. Amateur title
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash., -- Oklahoma State star Peter Uihlein topped David Chung 4 & 2 Sunday, taking the 110th U.S. Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay, Wash.
Uihlein was comfortable at 4-up after 27 of 36 holes, but Chung made it interesting, clawing back thanks in part to 4-foot putt on the 28th hole and a subsequent 25-foot birdie putt on No. 11.
But Uihlein reasserted himself on the 14th by draining a 20-foot birdie putt to go 3-up and cruise to the victory.
With the victory, Uihlein gets an invitation to next year's U.S. Open and probable trips to the Masters and British Open Championship.
