Rookie leads on PGA Tour

LAS VEGAS, -- Cameron Tringale, a PGA Tour rookie who has made the cut only four times, shared the lead Thursday after one round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Tringale, 23, is playing in his 20th tour event, and he has yet to finish among the Top 10.
On a day of typically low scores at the TPC-Summerlin course, Tringale birdied the final hole to shoot a 7-under 64. That left him tied for the top spot with Robert Garrigus, Will MacKenzie, John Senden and Michael Letzig.
George McNeill, Nicholas Thompson, Ryan Palmer, Vaughn Taylor and Martin Flores were all a shot back.
Among the large group at 66, tied for 11th place, was John Daly.
Daly, who has relied on invitations by sponsors to play a limited tour schedule this year, began this tournament in 193rd place on the money list. Only the Top 125 earn an exemption to play on the circuit next year, and this is the next-to-last tournament in which official money can be earned.
Daly will need close to $600,000 to move into the Top 125, and second place this week pays less than $500,000. He needs a victory, therefore, to regain a full-time spot on the tour for 2011.
