The San Francisco Giants walked away with an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, avoiding a three-game series sweep and inching closer to top spot in the National League West.

The win snaps a three-game losing streak for San Francisco, who now trail the NL West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks by 8-1/2 games with 16 games remaining in their regular season.

San Francisco enjoyed a five-run sixth inning with just two hits and the aid of five walks, two of them intentional, from three Dodgers pitchers.

The Giants sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning and Mark DeRosa and Jeff Keppinger were the only two Giants to get hits and they drove in two runs each.

Madison Bumgarner improved his record to 11-12 on the season, pitching five strong innings and allowing one run on just three hits while striking out eight.
