DISH Network Intros Earth Channel

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Planet Earth now has its own reality show.

Seriously.

On Wednesday, DISH Network introduced DISH Earth, a new channel offering live, 24-hour views of the big blue ball from a camera mounted on one of the DBS provider's commercial satellites. The channel is now available free to DISH Network subscribers on channel 212.

According to the operator, DISH Earth is supported by a camera mounted on the EchoStar 11 satellite some 22,300 miles above sea level at 110 degrees West. The camera -- which was jointly developed by the EchoStar Spacecraft Operations Team, Ecliptic Enterprises and Space Systems/Loral -- was carried into orbit with the satellite when it went up in 2008
