TVersity Launches Version 1.0 of Media Streaming Service

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, July 08, 2008 7:00 AM

After a long time in a very functional beta (initially released in May 2005!), our friends at TVersity has launched Version 1.0 of their media streaming solution and it is currently available for download.
“Informal surveys conducted by various independent gaming communities suggest that TVersity is being used by 40%-50% of game console owners that have interest in streaming media.” said Ronen Mizrahi, President and CEO of TVersity Inc., “This new software release will allow us to reach less tech savvy audiences and help us further substantiate our position as the leader in delivering home and Internet media to game consoles as well as other connected devices.”
The software will allow you to stream your own videos, music, and photos to a large number of gaming consoles and devices including the Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PSP, Microsoft Xbox 360, BlackBerry (OS V4.3 or higher), and even the iPhone.

TVersity also supports streaming media from the internet including podcasts and YouTube videos. This includes all of G4's podcasts, which you can watch on your PS3 or 360 through TVersity.
Say you own a PS3, Xbox 360, iPhone, and a BlackBerry... TVersity will automatically download your subscribed podcasts, YouTube videos, and manage your media library for streaming to any of your devices. So let’s say you watch an installment of Sessler's Soapbox on your PlayStation 3. Adam’s passion for Metal Gear Solid 4 (and his violent arm movements) inspire you want to watch the X-Play review, but you're about to leave the house. TVersity will let you stream the X-Play review to your iPhone or BlackBerry so you can watch it on the go.
The video is stored on your PC so you don't need to worry about moving the file to your device. It's all streamed when you decide to watch a video.
While the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have their own media solutions, they only support a couple of formats. TVersity does all the work for you by "transcoding" your media, in whatever format it might be in, into a format that your console or device will read. It will do this all in real-time over your home network so you can watch the videos on your PC on your 42" HDTV. Score!
Head on over to TVersity.com to check out Release Candidate Version 1.0 (Windows XP & Vista) and their Support section is full of guides for getting TVersity working with your device of choice.
