Time Warner Scores Big Ten Deal

Late Monday night, the Big Ten Network and Time Warner Cable announced an agreement-in-principle that will allow the cable operator to carry the college sports network on an expanded basic tier within the Big Ten footprint.

The deal came just before Ohio State opens its football season, and after the university warned that some of its televised football games may not be available through the MSO. In a letter to backers of the Ohio State athletic program, the university suggested that customers pick up DIRECTV or DISH Network as an alternative to Time Warner Cable for receiving the all-college sports network.

In a statement, Big Ten Network said the pending agreement would ensure that Time Warner Cable's customers across Big Ten states will have access to this Saturday's Big Ten college football season openers and all future programming on an expanded basic level of service.
