Fernandez, voice of 'Speed Racer,' dies
LOS ANGELES, Peter Fernandez, who lent his voice to the title character in the U.S. version of the Japanese "Speed Racer" cartoons, has died of lung cancer. He was 83.
His death was announced Friday by the Anime News Network.
In addition to helping to bring life to the character of Speed Racer, Fernandez also "played" Racer X and miscellaneous minor characters on the iconic 1960s animated series, E! News said.
He penned the lyrics to the show's theme song, as well, and lent his voice to characters in the "Astro Boy," "Ultraman," "Gigantor" and "Star Blazers" cartoons, E! noted.
