TV making "ticking" sound all of a sudden - what could be the reason and fix?

i've got an older CRT RCA Proscan TV. Input is a Tivo DVR. Also in the vicinity is a Wii, a stereo, DVD player and VCR. Up until today, it was fine, and now all of a sudden when it is on, even if nothing else is on, I'm hearing a distinct "ticking" sound at a rate of about 5 - 10 tics per second. Its not very loud, but what's interesting is if I pause the input so just the ticking is audible, if I raise the volume of the TV (even though it's silent) the ticking gets softer until it disappears, but if I lower the volume the ticking gets louder and louder.

Whats going on? Why? And can I fix it without spending more than the set is worth?

most times You hear that ticking its, the high voltage failure ...most likely a shorted HOT fallowed by flyback. TICKING NOISE could also be the LOPTX TRANSISTOR if your not an Expert it's best to get a real TV repairman to fix it...most likely it should not be more than $30.00 depending where u go..

Make sure one of your kids didn't hide a clock behind it..:p
I had the same thing, it was a bad connection on one of my speaker wires, but if it is all the time, then it is probably what Casper wrote...
