CHICAGO, -- Three men were arrested for allegedly pointing a laser beam at a Chicago Police helicopter, authorities say.

Alvin Kang, 25, of Northbrook, Jeremy A. Smith, 24, of Skokie, and Mark P. Lawrence, 25, of Winnetka, are facing charges of the unlawful use of a weapon, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The police helicopter was flying above Chicago's North Side at 9:50 p.m. when a green laser was shown in the crew's faces. Using night-vision glasses, the crew was able to pinpoint the location of the three suspects and alerted Near North officers on the ground. The Near North officers arrest the three men on a rooftop, the police report said.

Kang was arrested June 4 for fighting with another man in a case that is pending.

Kang, Smith and Lawrence are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 1.
