A school bus collided head-on with a large truck in Pennsylvania Wednesday, killing at least one person and leaving many others injured, authorities said.

The 2:30 p.m. EDT crash on Route 281 between Somerset and Confluence involved a bus from the Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District and a Pepsi delivery truck, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Mark Bower, superintendent of the Rockwood Area School District, said 22 students, the driver and another adult were on the bus, which was traveling from the Somerset County Technology Center in Somerset and to Confluence.

State police said the tractor-trailer truck crossed over the center line and struck the school bus head-on. The truck driver died, police said.

Bower said several people on the bus were flown by helicopter to hospitals in Johnstown and Somerset. One injured student was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. Others were taken by ambulance to area hospitals.

A spokesman for Somerset Hospital said 17 students were being seen at there and all were expected to be released after treatment.
