Step-by-Step instructions for configuring your new VIEWSAT Xtreme

***** IMPORTANT ******

Some customers are connecting their receivers to the satellite dish / TV incorrectly. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS and will DESTROY YOUR RECEIVER. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR "USERS MANUAL" that comes with each receiver, page 9 for correct hookup instructions. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN YOUR WARRANTY BEING VOIDED.

***** IMPORTANT ******

We assume a very basic understanding of navigating around your computer and a basic understanding of how your computer is organized. If you have no knowledge, we recommend you contact someone experienced with computers to follow these instructions and teach you. Everyone is at a different level of understanding, making it very difficult to write instructions that are accurate, and brief.

We recommend running the GUIDED TOUR that is included with EVERY copy of WINDOWS 95, 95, ME and XP. This will teach you the basics about moving around your computer, and will make it much easier to accomplish these steps.

This guide will be divided into chapters as follows:

Chapter 1 – Downloading support files from the Internet.
Chapter 2 – Programming your receiver using the files below.
Chapter 3 – Aiming your satellite dish and making connections.

CHAPTER 1: DOWNLOADING SOFTWARE FROM THE INTERNET

You must click on each of the blue buttons listed and select SAVE when prompted. You must choose a folder to save the files in, for later use. We recommend creating a folder in your C: drive called TEMP. (Hopefully you already know how to do this). If you don’t know how, save all files on your DESKTOP page (where all your icons are located)

Save the files listed below into the C:\TEMP folder, or onto your desktop screen as above.
Now you should have all files located in C:\TEMP. (or your desktop screen)

à To verify this, close all windows double-click on MY COMPUTER and then select the C drive. Once inside, on the right hand side, look for a folder called TEMP. Double-click the TEMP folder and you should now see the following 2 files:

Loader2.exe <--- this is the program used to update your FTA
Zmodem32.dll <--- this file is used by the Loader2.exe program.
Must be in the same folder with Loader2.exe
UEN2_vsX_Aug14.pgm <--- this is the Nagra 2 flash. AUTOROLL KEYS!

(Always use only the newest flash posted on the website.)

Chapter 2: Programming (Flashing) your Viewsat Xtreme

1.PLUG in ViewSat; turn rear POWER switch “OFF”. Connect ViewSat to computer Com1 Port via Null Modem cable

2.Open the program "Loader2. Click on tool, click on configuration and select the comm. port, Click "Open Files", select “DBPSW_060814ES_XTREME.PGM” to write to the ViewSat.

3. Click on PC-->STB button, then go press the Power “ON” switch on your ViewSat rear panel. (You should see the File loading properly)

4.WAIT! DO NOT TOUCH VIEWSAT!!! It will load the file. After file transfer is complete, the front panel will display “INST” for 15 seconds while it installs the software; “End” is displayed for about the next 10 seconds; then “ 00.00 “

. . . . . Front Panel goes to “0000”; you may switch power “OFF” and hook up to your TV

5. Connect your wire from the Satellite Dish to the LNB input on the back of your receiver.

6. Plug ViewSat into the wall socket and turn rear power switch “ON” .

End of programming.

Chapter 3: Aiming your Satellite Dish

This section will teach you the basics of navigating your new receiver. Please take a few moments and read your users manual to become familiar with basic controls and terms. Here are some of the buttons we will use:

MENU = Menu
( > ) = Right arrow
( < ) = Left arrow
OK = OK
( UP ) = Up Arrow
( DOWN ) = Down Arrow
EXIT = EXIT CURRENT MENU

Press MENU to begin your setup. Press DOWN on the remote to get to INSTALLATION. You will be asked for a password. The password is 0 0 0 0 Now press OK to select ANTENNA SETUP. Select your satellite by pressing the RIGHT or LEFT arrows. I recommend starting with the Echo 6,8 satellite. DO NOT PRESS OK.
The satellite name will now be displayed above all settings for this satellite. You should see two bars on the right side of the screen. The S indicator is on the left, and the Q indicator is on the right. For our purposes, we are watching the Q bar only, for the best signal possible. (above 60). You are now ready to rotate your dish and achieve the best signal possible on the Q level indicator.

*** PLEASE NOTE----> THE LNBS SHOULD BE POSITIONED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THEM. THESE POSITIONS ARE NOT STAMPED. THE LNBS SHOULD BE TOUCHING IN THE MIDDLE, LEAVING A GAP ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE PLASTIC ADAPTOR ON BOTH SIDES ABOUT 1 INCH. THE PLASTIC PUNCH-OUT IN THE MIDDLE POSITION WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED TO PUT THE LNBS IN PLACE CORRECTLY.

YOUR MAST (pole) MUST BE 100% VERTICAL and PLUM in order to successfully locate BOTH satellites. You will get false readings on your signal meter if you do not ensure this by using a level device. These are available at dollar stores or hardware stores. They should not be more than a few dollars.

Please set the Rotation/SKEW to 67 degrees (Elliptical Dish Only)
If you have a DISH500 ROUND dish, set it to 112 degrees SKEW

Please set your elevation to 32 degrees. The marker is the edge of the inside bracket, painted red or silver, not the BOLT.

When standing behind the dish, the 119 Satellite is on the LEFT LNB, 110 satellite is on the RIGHT LNB.

If you are not experienced, It could take you HOURS to find the satellite signals correctly. Connect your satellite finder to the 110 LNB and to the receiver as marked on the finder. If you are not using a satellite finder, connect the wire from your receiver DIRECTLY to your LNB. *** DO NOT USE THE SWITCH UNTIL AFTER BOTH SATELLITES HAVE BEEN AIMED *** The switch allows you to put 2 working satellite signals together, at the same time. It will make it difficult to aim for an accurate signal if you install the switch during aiming.

Locate the Echostar 8,10 satellite first, Sweep the dish from the south side of the sky towards the west, until you find a signal. If you followed the settings in the previous section, you should be looking at the correct signal. Fine tune the satellite by making very small adjustments to ALL THREE VARIABLES (Azimuth, Elevation and SKEW) and lock in at a strong signal. You may wish to tighten your bolts at your peak signal strength. Now, let’s check what satellite signal we actually are receiving by DOWNLOADING the active channels from the satellite service. Once you have found your signals for each satellite, you must download your channels individually to each satellite.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD CHANNELS FROM A SATELLITE – REPEAT FOR EACH Satellite
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Press MENU to begin your setup. Press DOWN on the remote to get to INSTALLATION. You will be asked for a password. The password is 0 0 0 0 Now press OK to select ANTENNA SETUP. Select your satellite by pressing the RIGHT or LEFT arrows. I recommend starting with the Echostar 8,10 satellite. DO NOT PRESS OK.

LNB POWER: ON
LNB TYPE: Standard
LNB Frequency : 11250
22 Khz: OFF
TP Freq: 12253 <---- Very Important Echo 6,8
SEARCH OPTION: ALL
DiSeCq 1.0: NONE <--- Once the switch is connected, set to port 1
MOTOR: OFF
LEgacy SW: None

Once all settings are verified, press F1 when you are ready to download your channels.

This should go to a new menu, showing TV channels on the left, and RADIO on the right. It is now downloading all active channels to your receiver. To verify you have the correct signal, on the Echostar 8,10 you should expect to see NBATV, PPV, RFI channels appear as some of the first channels. This will download the channels very quickly. If not, cancel by pressing EXIT. If you see the correct channels, allow it to finish before you begin to download the Echostar 7 (119) satellite.

You must now power off your receiver (flip black switch on back of receiver to do this) before disconnecting the Echostar 8,10 LNB and reconnecting the wire to the Echo 7 LNB. Not powering off your receiver could cause a spark/short circuit and this will void your warranty and could KILL your receiver. Now that you have connected the Echo 7 LNB ONLY, continue as below:

Press MENU to begin your setup. Press DOWN on the remote to get to INSTALLATION. You will be asked for a password. The password is 0 0 0 0 Now press OK to select ANTENNA SETUP. Select your satellite by pressing the RIGHT or LEFT arrows. DO NOT PRESS OK.

LNB POWER: ON
LNB TYPE: Standard
LNB Frequency : 11250
22 Khz: OFF
TP Freq: 12239 <---- Very Important Echo 7
SEARCH OPTION: ALL
DiSeCq 1.0: NONE <--- Once the switch is connected, set to port 4
MOTOR: OFF
LEgacy SW: None

Once all settings are verified, press F1 when you are ready to download your channels.

This should go to a new menu, showing TV channels on the left, and RADIO on the right. It is now downloading all active channels to your receiver. To verify you have the correct signal, channels BET, BRAVO and ANIMAL should appear in a minute or two. If not, cancel by pressing Exit. Once the download has completed successfully power off the receiver.

If everything is downloaded correctly, connect the left LNB (Echo 7) to LNB 4 and the (Echo 6.8) to LNB 1 on your DiSeCq switch. (this assumes standing behind the dish looking into the sky) We have advised you to use white wire for Echo 8.6, and black wire for the Echo 7. Connect the wire from the satellite receiver, to the RCV port of the switch.

Be sure to go back into the antenna setup for each satellite, as described above and change the Disecq 1.0 setting for each satellite from OFF to the appropriate number (#1 for Echo 8.6, #4 for Echo 7). Press exit on the remote and press OK to allow the receiver to save the changes when you leave each satellites setup screen.

FAILURE TO SET YOUR DISECQ SETTINGS, AFTER CONNECTING THE SWITCH WILL RESULT IN BAD OR SCRAMBLED CHANNELS ON THE ECHO 7 SATELLITE, but WILL allow the ECHO 6.8 satellite to work as normal

You are now complete. Exit all menus to watch TV. If Auto-roll is working, you must now wait up to 15 minutes on a channel for the current keys to decode TV. (only the channel info will be displayed on the TV screen). If AUTO-ROLL is not working, you will now have to enter the keys manually according to the KEYCHANGE INSTRUCTIONS on the website.

Again, Wait for 15 minutes for TV to decode before doing anything else.

Now, let's set the time correctly.

Press MENU
Select INSTALLATION, Press OK
Enter your password ( 0 0 0 0 )
Select Time Setting
Settings should read:

Time MODE: Auto
Time Adjustment:: -05:00 (means Eastern time zone)
Summertime: ON (if its winter, turn off)

Press Exit several times to return to viewing TV.

Now, let's set the TV GUIDE HOURS (in advance)

Press MENU
Select OPTIONS, Press OK
EPG hours should be set to 24 if you want 24 hours. This is your preference.
Press Exit

Now, let's RECEIVE GUIDE (fill-it up)
We will perform this step each time we wish to fill-up our tv guide.

Press MENU
Press 7 (Receive Guide)
Wait 2 minutes.
You're guide now is full for all channels, up to the number of hours you set above. (Max 24hrs)
