hello, I am trying to set up a new dish. It is a Star Choice. I got it from a neighbour. My Viewsat Extreme is all loaded ready to go but I cannot get a signal. Does Star Choice work with Viewsat!?!? Do I have to use a Bell Expressvu dish!?!? Please help.

Thanks for all you support in the past. Great site.

Here is what you need to know,

The dish itself is incompatible with FTA for many reason. One of the main reason is the LNB arm is too Long. The long arm is because the focal point of the dish hits the twin head LNB that S*C uses. You can modify it, I have seen this done.(not recommended) You will need to shorten the arm till the LNB horn hits the Focal point of the dish. You will now be using a "Modded Dish" and the Elevation and Azimuth are not the same. Therefore it harder to setup.

Some people have managed to get it work!!

Its just not worth the trouble.

Pay the 50$ and get a normal FTA ready dish like the fortecstar 33" that am using with Bracket. works like a charm.

on older starchoice, Rumas is right you have to mod dish because of focal point and you have to change LNB. If you are using the new eliptical 24" starchoice dish, you have to change the bracket and the LNB's I have one working, but I have been in the sat repair bizz for 25 years. Much easier just to get a b3v dish. You can purchase a after market one for about $50 bucks. or do like I do check yard sales $10 to $25 bucks

well by the sounds of it they really don't work then . Because if you have to change LNBs , you can technically use a garbage can lid with a Lnb & get that working, you can buy a new eliptical dish with Quad holder & 3 LNBs for $80.00 or less . Good Luck:)

Ok, you can't just use a garbage can lid or anything of that type because you would need to paint it with special paint. Satellite dishes are painted with special paint that reflects the signal being sent out by the satellite and directs those signals to the lnb.

well i tell you what take a LMB & in front of your body even and you can get a signal i have done it and in third world countries they do use garbage can lids I've seen & far as the paint thing I have a dish painted to camoflage so management can,t see it at work. and it works fine . i'm not try to argue with anyone here I'm just relaying info ..CHEERS & Happy Thanksgiving Everyone...;)
