After seeing numerous strange error codes popping up lately, I did a little research/testing and came to the conclusion that non of the older fail fix files (they are just old bin files anyway) or any older file will cause major problems if you’ve upgraded to the latest (April08) bin files. With these concerns I contacted oddT and here is his response:

Now, since Both V1, and V2 now run the same GUI to upgrade the video, on a V1 when you try and use a old bin from DEC 07, it will cause a lot of problems and most times lock the unit up after it runs for a few minutes, WHY?
Because if you change to the older files you have to also change the GUI back to v1.19 or older to make them work, same on the V2, you CANNOT! Put a file older than JAN 24th 08 on the V2, it will not function, and it will lock up all remote functions, plus the unit.
Well it all comes down to the new format of the GUI for one thing, and another is that we are no longer running MAPCALL $57 thru the EEPROM when it BOOTS!
Now we run MAPCALLS from 9f, thru the bad as MAPCALL$39, which 90% of the time we on MAPCALL$38.
Members are going to have to learn this, and older files removed so they can’t screw there boxes up. You ask WHY? Has viewsat not warned us?
For the simple fact it’s not them, Viewtec, doesn’t know what the right hand, is doing with the left hand, so to speak, because of the lawsuit!
Between ******** vs. Viewsat Inc.
It better to be stupid sometimes, and never use third party software so to speak!

The only file’s to use on a failed box 99% or the time, is the bin file you just screwed up on. You no longer have to re-flash a factory bin file first, but only the new bin file again, it will repair the failed flash problems, without going thru the old procedure all over again, like for the V1. Remember bill its very important to never use any file older than the new bin files being released today, non of the older files will work any longer, because of the new MAP 0x3B Algorithm being used!, you might post this info for Ultra user;s to read!!

So with this in mind, use factory file V132 and the latest bin file to fix your ultra, any of the older files will cause you a problem
