How to play games designed for DirectX 9 on a PC with DirectX 11?

I have an old game, Blade of Darkness, that is installed on my laptop running Windows 7. When I play the game, I experience a visual problem. The text on menu screen won't get highlighted. I have tried the Windows 7 compatibility options but they don't work. It seems the problem is on the Direct X version since the game runs fine on Windows XP. Is there any way to temporarily change the Direct X version on my laptop?

No there is no way to do so. If you really really want to play that game, try something like VirtualPC---Kasey C, PC guru since Apple II daysEver notice that protesters have nothing better to do?

It likely not a DirectX issue because DirectX 11 is fully backwards compatible with all previous versions of DirectX. The issue is likely Windows 7. I didn't find that software in the Windows 7 Compatibility Centre and although that does not necessarily mean it is not compatible, it doesn't seem to be from what you are experiencing. Try patching it to the latest version as well as looking for unofficial fixes online.
