KAMLOOPS, B.C. - A B.C. man is in custody after spending more than six hours perched in a willow tree wielding a chainsaw as police tried to talk him down.

The RCMP in Kamloops, B.C., say a man climbed nearly 10 metres up the tree Saturday night after threatening his father with the bush chainsaw.

Police negotiators from Kelowna were brought in to talk to the man.

Staff St. Grant Learned says the man had the chainsaw running when he made the threat.

Learned says the man tossed the chainsaw from the tree, nearly hitting one of the Mounties, and assaulted an officer with burning branch when he finally came down.

A 41-year-old man, who hasn't been named, faces numerous charges, including assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
