MONTREAL - The father of a Montreal girl who turned up in Vancouver after disappearing more than two years ago says he can't wait to bring her home.
Frank Gonis says he's heading to Vancouver to pick up his 10-year-old daughter, Ashley, who has been missing since January 2007.
Metro Vancouver transit police say Ashley Gonis called 911 last Friday from a pay phone at a SkyTrain station.
Police say the girl told them she had moved from Quebec to B.C. and was now running away to escape an abusive situation at home.
The father alleges that Ashley Gonis' mother, his former common-law partner, left with the girl.
Frank Gonis says the pain brought on by his daughter's disappearance has been indescribable.
He says he didn't know if she was alive or dead.
A spokeswoman for Vancouver police says abuse allegations by the girl are unsubstantiated and no charges have been laid in the case.
Montreal police say they are investigating.
Ashley Gonis is currently in the care of B.C.'s Ministry of Children and Families.
