Congressional Dems sick of healthcare

WASHINGTON, (UPI) -- Some congressional Democrats say they have had enough of healthcare reform and prefer to focus on more-promising issues as mid-term elections draw near.

The debate over President Obama's controversial healthcare program has shifted to implementation of the complex legislation by the executive branch, which members say has left Congress with less of a sense of urgency, if not outright healthcare fatigue.

"I have said for the last year and a half that we should be doing more on job creation, and I hope that we do move on," Rep. Daniel Lipinski, D-Ill., told The Hill. "I don't think we're going to be doing much more of anything on health care reform for the rest of the year."

Democratic leaders have pointed to a backlog of bills that piled up during the intense healthcare debate; however, The Hill noted many Democrats are happy to let the healthcare uproar die down as they campaign for re-election.

"There's no 'freeze' per se (on healthcare legislation)," a Democratic policy consultant told The Hill, "just doubts that there will be additional healthcare reform legislation passed the remainder of the year."
