Amputation reported at Texas meat plant

FORTH WORTH, Texas, (UPI) -- A man had an arm severed at a Fort Worth, Texas, meat company Wednesday, a fire department spokesman said.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported the accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. at Frontier Meats and the victim was taken by helicopter to a Dallas hospital.

Fire department spokesman Tim Hardeman told the newspaper initial reports indicated the person lost an arm. The Star-Telegram said a spokesman for MedStar emergency services described the injury as a "traumatic amputation."

"Just from that description, the patient would be in critical condition, at the minimum," Hardeman said.

The Frontier Meats Web site says the company has been in business for 34 years, listing gourmet cuts of beef, ostrich, wild boar, buffalo and venison among its products.
