Firefighters keep lid on N. Arizona blazes
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., (UPI) -- The Schultz Pass wildfire in Arizona grew to 3,000 acres Sunday, forcing evacuations and closing a portion of Highway 89, officials said.

Flagstaff's Arizona Daily Sun reported people fled more than a thousand homes in the Timberline and Wupatki Trails neighborhoods and others were evacuated the Horse Camp area.

Meanwhile, fire officials lifted an evacuation order for neighborhoods affected by the Hardy Fire in Flagstaff south of Interstate 40, the newspaper said.

Several air tankers were being employed to fight the fire.

The Daily Sun said no injuries had been reported and no structures had been damaged.

The 500- to 600-acre Hardy Fire forced the evacuation of 170 homes and temporarily closed the landmark Little America Hotel Saturday.

The Daily Sun reported Sunday winds had died down overnight and electricity flowing through a major power line in the area had been rerouted.

Red-flag fire danger conditions were in effect, however, in southwestern Colorado and parts of Utah.
