Report: Budget director to leave post
WASHINGTON, (UPI) -- Director of the Office of Management and Budget Peter Orszag plans to leave office next month, multiple media reports in Washington said Monday.

Citing a Democratic Party figure whose name was not reported, The Washington Post said Orszag has decided to resign within the next few weeks. Citing a source familiar with Orszag's plans, The New York Times said the budget director will leave office in July -- which could make him the first member of President Barack Obama's Cabinet to resign.

Orszag came to the White House after serving for almost two years as director of the Congressional Budget Office. He has recently supported deficit reduction during internal White House debates on economic policy, the Times said.

Obama has urged Orszag not to leave office, but Orszag argued that whoever succeeds him should be in office in time to help draft a budget for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1, the Times reported.
