Source: Bin Laden 'hunter' released

WASHINGTON, (UPI) -- A U.S. citizen detained in Pakistan while allegedly hunting for Osama bin Laden has been released, a source close to his family told CNN Tuesday.

Gary Faulkner, 50, was on his way back to the United States and no charges were filed against him, the cable news network reported.

Faulkner, who was arrested June 13, had been receiving dialysis treatment in Islamabad and was reported in good condition, the report said.

Faulkner's brother, a Colorado internist, said last week Faulkner had made at least six trips to Pakistan on a one-man mission to kill bin Laden. Dr. Scott Faulkner told The Denver Post his brother has wanted to kill the terrorist leader since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

Pakistani authorities said Faulkner was carrying a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian books when he was detained. A police official said Faulkner denied he intended to kill bin Laden but police did not believe him, given the weaponry he carried.

The U.S. government is offering a reward of up to $25 million for information leading to the arrest of bin Laden, CNN noted.
