Police: Couple grew pot in kids' bedrooms
MEMPHIS, (UPI) -- A Memphis couple have been charged with growing more than 7 pounds of marijuana in their children's bedrooms, police said.

Mark and Debra Tucker were being held in the county jail, charged with child abuse and neglect and two counts of marijuana possession with intent to manufacture, deliver or sell it, police said.

Mark Tucker was also charged with abuse and neglect of a child under 6 years old after police found his 2-year-old son playing in the street Tuesday.

Mark Tucker admitted using his 14-year-old son's closet as a "starter" grow room and his 11-year-old daughter's closet as a budding, or finishing, room, a police affidavit stated.

Police found 29 marijuana plants growing in the bedroom and bedroom closet, The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported.

Tucker, who said he had grown cannabis since early this year, also admitted smoking marijuana while his children were nearby, police said.

Debra Tucker said she knew marijuana was growing in the house, but didn't know about health hazards to the children such as mold and fire hazards, the affidavit said.
